Spicy Tamarind Paloma Mocktail: A Zero-Proof Cinco de Mayo Drink
Tangy, smoky, and bright with a slow kick of heat. Mexico’s beloved highball, fully zero-proof.
Ingredients
- 3 oz fresh pink grapefruit juice
- 1 oz tamarind concentrate (or 2 tbsp tamarind paste dissolved in 2 oz water)
- 1/2 oz fresh lime juice
- 1/2 oz agave syrup
- 2 oz grapefruit sparkling water or club soda
- Pinch of cayenne or 2 dashes of hot sauce (optional)
- Tajín-salt rim and lime wheel, for garnish
Instructions
- Rim a tall glass with lime juice and dip into a Tajín-salt mixture.
- Fill the glass with ice, then add grapefruit juice, tamarind, lime juice, agave, and cayenne.
- Stir gently to combine.
- Top with sparkling water and garnish with a lime wheel.
Why It’s Better
Tamarind’s tartness and grapefruit’s natural bitter notes build the layered, complex profile of a tequila Paloma without the alcohol. A drink with this much character invites slower, more intentional sipping, exactly the pacing a long Cinco celebration deserves.
