Article: Smoky Tamarind Paloma

Smoky tamarind Paloma cocktail in a Collins glass with Tajin-salt rim and lime wheel garnish

Smoky Tamarind Paloma

Smoky, tart, and bright. A grown-up Paloma with real depth.

Ingredients

  • 2 oz mezcal (or blanco tequila for a softer take)
  • 2 oz fresh pink grapefruit juice
  • 3/4 oz tamarind concentrate
  • 1/2 oz fresh lime juice
  • 1/2 oz agave syrup
  • 2 oz grapefruit soda or sparkling water
  • Tajín-salt rim and lime wheel, for garnish

Instructions

  1. Rim a Collins glass with lime juice and dip into a Tajín-salt mixture.
  2. Add mezcal, grapefruit juice, tamarind, lime juice, and agave to a shaker with ice.
  3. Shake briefly and strain over fresh ice in the prepared glass.
  4. Top with grapefruit soda and garnish with a lime wheel.

Why It’s Better

Real grapefruit and tamarind replace the corn syrup of bottled paloma mixes, delivering layered citrus and a savory edge. Mezcal’s natural smoke amplifies the complexity, so one well-built drink satisfies far more than a round of sweeter alternatives.
